Afterthought is good if you don't want to mess up a self-striping yarn's pattern. I have fish kiss queued, but MAN that pattern is long. 16 pages for a heel technique! Hopefully you'll find a pattern that works perfectly for what you have in mind. When I work my toeup socks, I just work a gusset and heel flap usually.
